Drinking water testing
Most flag states have developed their own set of rules. MEA-nl assures you of proper drinking water adhering to the rules set by your flag state.
All seafarers should have access to cold potable water for consumption. At specified locations, also a hot water tap should be available on board. Ashore, this sound quite obvious as local governments safeguard public health. For seafarers, this is laid down in the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 and incorporated International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention 133. The fourth edition of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Guidelines for Drinking-Water Quality (GDWQ) provide a set of guidelines.

We sample your drinking water to test it
As a Dutch company MEA-nl follows Dutch guidelines. The GGD Amsterdam (as Ship Sanitation Inspectorate) requires having a drinking water test and analysis at least once a year.
We take these samples from the potable water tank, the tap furthest away from the potable water tank and from the hospital on board. Analyses incude a set of general analyses, metals, micro-organisms. If cold water exceeds 25 degrees Celsius or if hot water is below 50 degrees Celsius, additional Legionella tests will be done.
All our tests will be conducted by our qualified personnel who use suitable, ISO confirmed methods accredited by our own independent laboratory. As with all procedures performed by our personnel we follow ISO and/or Dutch/European legislations.
