Biological Commissioning of BWMS
Shortly after installation or modification, all ballast water management systems (BWMS) have to go through biological commissioning on behalf of the flag administration. Biological commissioning is part of the statutory surveys and required by flag/class. For most classification societies, the specialists of MEA-nl can take the samples and conduct the analyses as required.
Since the new D2 standard, set by the IMO BWM convention, having a bwms on board a vessel is needed to comply with this new standard. A D2-Commissioning test is therefore also mandatory when having a type approved ballast water management system installed in a vessel to comply with this D2-standard.
The professionals of MEA-nl carry out operational tests to show compliance with the discharge standard D2 commissioning. Tests shall be conducted on board the vessel in accordance with IMO Circular BWM.2/Circ.70/Rev.1, sampling in accordance with Guideline G2. We are certified by several classification societies, find our class certifications at the link hereunder:
Commissioning tests can be conducted in the Dunkerque-Hamburg range; including the ports of Antwerp, Rotterdam and Bremen. If requested beforehand, VGP- and drinking water tests can be conducted in a mutual consultation.
In consultation with associated laboratories, we can do the biological commissioning test in the harbors that are shown on the map below.
Quick test
Besides a complete commissioning, we can also conduct a quick test to see whether all is working properly. Samples will be taken indicative, analyses detailed. At relatively low costs, we can do a representative test, to prevent for counterfeiting.
